The French rail transport industry, consisting of almost 10,000 companies, will receive an additional €1.5 billion per year from 2024 from the state to modernise the national railway network. This was announced at the International Exhibition of the Railway Industry 2023. Network operator SNCF Réseau and the railway industry association FIF have launched a programme to strengthen cooperation within the industry to meet the challenges of network regeneration and modernisation, operational performance, and ecological transition. SNCF Réseau has already shared the list of 150 major regeneration and modernisation projects planned up to 2027 with all industry players. New training initiatives have been introduced to attract and train talent for the sector. In addition, the partners have created a guide with 80 ecological solutions to limit their impact on the environment. The industry has also established common rules for operational efficiency and is working to harmonise the digital tools used by the various players.
