HZ Infrastruktura installs system for automatic vehicle monitoring

Croatian infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura has installed a system for the automatic technical, safety, and security-related monitoring of rolling stock, including measuring points and additional safety technology. The systems monitor the operational status of specific vehicle components during operation, providing data for preventative measures to protect the infrastructure. The recorded parameters are automatically transmitted to a central monitoring centre in Zagreb, as well as to local centres in Zagreb, Vinkovci, and Rijeka. In case of deviations, the operations management starts operational measures to ensure the safety of rail transport. Currently, eight measuring points are equipped, five of which are operational. The remaining ones will become operational during 2026. The project is part of a larger initiative to improve the safety of rail infrastructure and is co-financed by the EU's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. This funding is based on a grant agreement signed in November 2020 for EUR 17.1 million, of which EUR 14.5 million comes from CEF funds and EUR 2.6 million from the Croatian state budget.
