Hochtief and Hasenöhrl extend western railway Linz – Wels to four tracks

The Austrian state railway ÖBB has awarded Hochtief Infrastructure Austria, together with Hasenöhrl Bau, the contract for the four-track expansion of the section between Linz and Marchtrenk of the Linz – Wels western railway. Of the contract value of around €50 million, around €25 million is attributable to the Austrian subsidiary of the German construction company Hochtief. Work on the 3.6 km long section is scheduled to begin in September 2024 and be completed in just over five years. Several engineering structures are to be demolished and rebuilt. To maintain operations on two tracks during the construction work, the structures will be built on one side only. The contract also includes earthworks and roadworks, the relocation of the Linzer Lokalbahn LILO and the construction of noise barriers. The completion of the entire route should lead to increased frequency and capacity in regional passenger rail transport and long-distance passenger rail transport.
