Hitachi delivers 5G CBTC to New York and Hong Kong

Hitachi Rail has been awarded contracts to deploy communications-based train control (CBTC) with 5G communications for urban rail transport in New York and Hong Kong. The technology replaces older radio technologies for critical train-to-ground communications and will be deployed on the Crosstown Line in New York and the automated people mover (APM) at Hong Kong International Airport. Hitachi is using its CBTC solution SelTrac. In particular, the 5G technology is designed to provide continuous high-performance connectivity in the most demanding environments such as tunnels. The significantly increased 5G bandwidth also enables the use of digital asset management solutions.
