A consortium of Hitachi Rail and Sistem has been awarded a EUR 126.5 million contract for the installation of signalling and operational control technology on the 70 km Talayuela – Plasencia section of the Madrid – Extremadura high-speed rail (HSR) line in Spain. In addition to electronic interlocking systems, train protection, fixed-line telecommunications, and ERTMS Level 2, the contract also includes the Central Operations Control (CTC) system and four years of maintenance for all systems. The contract, awarded by the infrastructure manager Adif, is part of the EUR 3.8 billion upgrade of the 437 km Madrid – Extremadura HSR line. The Madrid – Oropesa, Talayuela – Plasencia, and Plasencia – Mérida – Badajoz sections are part of the Atlantic Corridor.
