The HIMA Group and the Dutch consulting and engineering firm Movares have signed a contract to modernise the train control system at the Rotterdam Centraal junction. The project includes the replacement of the existing electronic interlocking system (ESTW) with a programmable logic interlocking system based on HIMA's IXL technology. The technology is already in use in Amersfoort, Beverwijk, Groningen, and Assen and can be integrated into the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). HIMA and Movares will install the programmable logic controllers (PLC) at a total of ten relay stations in Rotterdam.
