As part of Austria's new coalition government, Peter Hanke from the SPÖ will become the new Federal Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Innovation. This was decided by the SPÖ on 28th February 2025. Hanke has been a Vienna City Councillor for Finance, Economy, Labour, International Affairs, and the Vienna city utility company since May 2018. He was Managing Director of Wien Holding from 2002 to May 2018. He named three important goals of his work: strengthening Austria as a location for research and development, expanding and decarbonising public transport, and making Austria an attractive business location in the long term.
