The Polish government has promised to finance the high-speed rail (HSR) line of the new central airport CPK from the national budget. The project involves the construction of a Y-shaped railway network connecting Warsaw and CPK with Lodz and then on to Wroclaw and Poznan. In July 2024, Prime Minister Donald Tusk had recommitted his government to partially implementing the CPK programme after the plans of the previous government were reviewed. It is hoped that at least some of it will be co-financed by the European Union. The remaining parts of the revised rail network, proposed by the previous government and totalling 1,981 km of new lines, almost half of which were HSR lines, are still under review. Technical adjustments were also needed. The planned maximum speed of the network was increased from 250 km/h to 320 km/h and the current rail network, which uses 3 kV DC electrification, will be converted to a HSR network with 25 kV 50 Hz. The completion dates have also been reviewed, with the aim of completing the Warsaw – Lodz section by 2032 and the HSR lines to Wroclaw and Poznan by 2035.
