The UK government has announced five-year funding agreements worth €18.5 billion (GB£ 15.6 billion) for regional transport projects that will enable city regions such as South Yorkshire, North East, East Midlands and Tees Valley to push ahead with local transport projects in city regions and surrounding towns. Planned projects include the metro extension from Washington to Newcastle and Sunderland and the renewal of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Network in South Yorkshire. The full results of the Green Book review, which guides the government's investment decisions, will be published on 11th June 2025.
