Government opens two new metro sections in Delhi and launches Phase V-A

In Delhi, the Indian government has opened two new metro corridors and laid the foundation stone for three further lines in Phase V-A. The approximately 12.3 km elevated section of the Pink Line between Majlis Park, Maujpur and Babarpur was opened, as was the approximately 9.9 km section of the Magenta Line between Deepali Chowk and Majlis Park. The total investment amounted to over EUR 1.7 billion (INR 183 billion). With the new section of the Pink Line, the line now extends to around 71.56 km, forming a fully operational ring corridor. The project also includes a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-deck viaduct with a metro line and road overpass. Passenger service on the two opened sections began on 9th March 2026. As part of the projects, Alstom supplied 312 Metropolis metro cars and the Urbalis Flo CBTC signalling system for the extension of the Pink Line, with a contract value of EUR 312 million. In phase V-A, three new corridors with a total length of around 16.1 km will be built: R.K. Ashram Marg – Indraprastha (Central Vista) and the Golden Line extensions Aerocity – IGI Airport Terminal 1 and Tughlakabad – Kalindi Kunj.
