Government establishes railway agency ATTRAPI

The Mexican government has established the Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transport (ATTRAPI). ATTRAPI is a decentralised, technically and operationally autonomous institution under the Ministry of Transport (SICT) and is responsible for the planning, construction, monitoring and maintenance of railway infrastructure with a focus on passenger rail transport and its integration into urban mobility. ATTRAPI is continuing the programme to build 3,000 km of new passenger rail transport lines. The first construction phase includes the northern corridors AIFA – Pachuca, Mexico City – Querétaro, Querétaro – Irapuato and Saltillo – Monterrey – Nuevo Laredo. Alstom has also received an order for 47 diesel multiple units (DMU) for the Mexico City – Querétaro – Irapuato and Saltillo – Nuevo Laredo lines.
