The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure, together with the project promoter CPK and the infrastructure operator PKP PLK, has launched the planning phase for the ZSK integrated railway network. The aim is to develop a long-term strategy for the expansion and modernisation of the railway network. As part of the current analyses, around ten scenarios for growth after 2035 are being examined. By 2035, at least 2,000 km of new lines are to be built, 1,000 km of which by 2035, bringing the total length of the network to 20,000 km. The focus is on projects such as the Y-shaped high-speed rail (HSR) line Warsaw – CPK Airport – Lodz – Poznan/Wroclaw, cross-border connections such as Katowice – Ostrava, and modernisation as part of the Rail Baltica project. The consultation phase included meetings in all 16 provincial capitals and the involvement of over 700 stakeholders. The final recommendations will be published in the first quarter of 2026.
