Government calls for more EU funding for infrastructure

Slovakia welcomes state support for rail transport but still sees a funding bottleneck. At a conference, speakers called for the continuation of the EU's CEF funding programme. Libor Lochman, former CER head, expects at least €100 billion in EU funding for 2024-2029 and emphasises the importance of ERTMS, FRMCS and digital coupling. ZSR Director General Alexander Sako referred to ongoing projects such as the modernisation of 30 stations, including Bratislava, but criticised the relatively small budget of €450 million. Jaroslav Daniska of ZSSK Cargo emphasised the role of his company in freight transport and called for more cooperation for a modern railway network.
