Gherghinescu becomes new ERA Director

The Administrative Board of the European Railway Agency (ERA) has elected Oana Gherghinescu as its new Executive Director. Gherghinescu, currently Head of ERA's Executive Office, has more than 22 years of experience, including 13 years in management positions and 11 years at ERA. She will be presented to the European Parliament's Transport Committee on 9th April 2025 before taking office. Until then, Pio Guido will remain acting director. The European Rail Industry Supply Association (Unife) expects Gherghinescu to tackle challenges such as the European Train Control System (ETCS), the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), and the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC), as well as keeping a focus on the harmonisation of operating rules and cyber security. The association also hopes that it will provide strong leadership and pragmatic solutions to optimise ERA's tasks, particularly with regard to vehicle approval and the introduction of new technologies.
