GCF wins construction contracts for HSR line

Moroccan state railway ONCF has awarded Italian track construction company GCF two construction contracts for the extension of the existing high-speed rail (HSR) line from Tangier to Kenitra to Marrakesh. GCF will be the main contractor in a consortium with its subsidiaries to realize the Sidi El Aidi – Marrakech section over approximately 200 km. The contract is worth €140 million and includes track construction and overhead line work. This includes the excavation of foundations, the installation of masts and electrification equipment, as well as the tensioning of the cables. GCF has started detailed planning, and site preparations are underway. In addition, GCF will set up construction centres in Sidi El Aidi and Benguerir, which will serve as logistical hubs and for the maintenance of construction machinery. The project also includes the modernisation of the existing Sidi El Aidi – Marrakech line with an additional contract worth €55 million to be completed within 36 months. The work includes the renewal of tracks, switches and overhead line equipment as well as the renovation of six stations and the construction of two new stations.
