FTA supports Chicago's Red Line extension with €1.9 billion

The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has signed a €1.9 billion (US$1.97 billion) agreement with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to support the Red Line metro extension. The extension, funded in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will extend the Red Line by 8.9 km and provide faster connections from the Far South Side to the city. The €1.9 billion from the FTA covers 34% of the total cost of €5.6 billion and is part of the Capital Investment Grants (CIG) programme.
