On 17th February 2025, the Spanish central government and the Catalan regional government decided to create a new company called Rodalies de Catalunya, which will take over the Rodalies regional passenger rail transport network from 1st January 2026. This company will be set up as a mixed company with a majority shareholding by the Generalitat de Catalunya to manage the region's regional railway network. The bilateral infrastructure commission has also agreed to transfer the R1 public transport line from the Sagrera junction to Maçanet Massanes to the Generalitat. A new plan for the Rodalies network for the period 2026-2030 is due to be approved in July 2026, which includes the improvement of the infrastructure and the renewal of assets. Employees' rights will be protected by an agreement between Spanish state railway Renfe and the new company to guarantee mobility and acquired rights. The formation of a group to analyse the needs of rail freight transport in Girona and the planning of the Figueres bypass line were also discussed.
