First section of Naples – Bari HSR line completed

Italian construction company Webuild has completed the first section of the future high-speed rail (HSR) line between Naples and Bari on behalf of infrastructure operator RFI. The first 2 km of the line on the Naples – Cancello section have been laid, while construction of the Casalnuovo tunnel, which is being built using hyperbaric technology, is nearing completion. The start of operations of the Naples – Cancello section is planned for early 2026. The 15.5 km section begins at Acerra station and continues to Cancello. The new tracks will be connected to the Naples-Afragola HSR station. The completion of this section will see the opening of new stations in Acerra and Casalnuovo, as well as the planned Centro Commerciale stop. The future Naples – Bari HSR line will cover 145 km and reduce the travel time between Naples and Bari from four to two hours.
