€20 million investment in rail infrastructure

The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina is providing around €20 million for rail transport in 2025. Of this, €10.4 million is for infrastructure maintenance and subsidies in passenger and intermodal freight transport. Around €2.1 million is earmarked for investments in electrical systems, signalling technology and track improvements in cities such as Mostar, Sarajevo, Zenica and Tuzla. €5.2 million is going to the financial consolidation of state-owned railway company ZFBiH, for example to cover pension obligations. A further €250,000 is earmarked for the operation of the joint railway company with Republika Srpska. In addition, the railway authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the end of March 2025 to strengthen cooperation in the Western Balkans.
