EU to invest in military mobility by 2030

The European Commission (EC) and the High Representative have presented the White Paper on European Defense – Readiness 2030, which defines military mobility as a priority for EU security. The ReArm Europe Plan/Readiness 2030 provides financial resources for the Member States. The EU has identified the four multimodal corridors rail, road, sea and air for military mobility to move troops and equipment quickly. 500 projects, including the expansion of railway tunnels and the reinforcement of bridges, have been identified as urgent. The White Paper outlines measures to improve European readiness, including improving military mobility and strengthening external borders. A budget of €150 billion will be made available under the SAFE Regulation to address common priorities. The EC emphasizes the essential role of rail for EU defence. The plan aims to strengthen defense capabilities and identify investment needs.
