The European Union (EU) has provided €32 million for the modernisation of the North-South railway corridor in Moldova. The contract was awarded to Obermeyer Hellas and DB Engineering & Consulting and includes support for the implementation and monitoring of the renovation work. The railway line runs through the cities of Vălcineț, Ocnița, Bălți, Ungheni, Chișinău, and Căinari. Additional investments are coming from European institutions. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is contributing €41 million and the European Investment Bank (EIB) over €50 million. The project aims to strengthen Moldova's integration into the European railway network.
