Etihad Rail has received preparatory bids for the construction of a high-speed rail (HSR) line between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The first phase of the project, a 150 km line, is expected to be completed by 2030. The planned expansion of the network includes up to ten stations in Abu Dhabi, as well as new lines between Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain, and Dubai and Sharjah. Trains on the new lines will travel at speeds of up to 320 km/h. Preliminary ground investigations for the first phase have already begun. The Matcon Testing Laboratory in Dubai and Engineering & Research International of Abu Dhabi, together with engineering consultants Sener and Ineco, are investigating the soil and terrain conditions along the proposed line.
