Electrification of Prague – Bayerisch Eisenstein line planned by 2029

The railway line between Prague and Bayerisch Eisenstein is to be fully electrified by 2029. According to Czech infrastructure manager SZ, the electrification of the 49 km section between Klatovy and Zelezná Ruda-Alžbětín will begin in 2026. This will replace the diesel trains currently in use, shorten journey times and enable more direct express connections. The 1,747 m Spitzberg tunnel in the Bohemian Forest is a particular challenge. The cross-border railway station of Bayerisch Eisenstein, whose station building straddles the border, is also included in the electrification plans.
