EIB considers financing for modernisation of Gdynia - Słupsk line

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering financing a modernisation project for the Polish railway line between Gdynia Chylonia and Słupsk. The EIB could contribute €400 million to the estimated total cost of the project, which is estimated at €1.5 billion. Polish infrastructure operator PKP PLK plans to modernise the 100 km line, upgrade it to double track and electrify it, including the reconstruction of 29 engineering structures, five stations and three stops, the construction of four new structures and the renewal of 24 platforms. Completion is scheduled for December 2029. The project is co-financed by the European Union, including €61 million from the Cohesion Fund 2014-2020. The project is divided into two phases, with the modernisation of the Lębork – Słupsk section already awarded in two contracts with a total value of €435.3 million. The tender procedure for the work on the Gdynia Chylonia – Lębork section, with an estimated value of €879 million, is currently underway. Once the modernisation is complete, passenger trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h and freight trains at speeds of up to 120 km/h along the entire line.
