EC approves €73 million for LRT extension in Bratislava

The European Commission (EC) has approved cohesion policy funding of over €73 million from the 2014-2020 programming period for the extension of the second section of the Safárikovo námestie – Janíkov dvor light rail transit (LRT) line in Bratislava, Slovakia. The investment is part of an overall goal to improve public transport in the Petrzalka district. The new LRT line, which will connect the southern part of Petrzalka with the historic centre of Bratislava, will run for approx. 3.8 km from Bosákova ulica to Janíkov dvor. It will complement the first section of the line, which is already in operation from Safárikovo námestie to Bosákova ulica. According to the EC, the line is expected to transport almost 50,000 passengers per day in each direction.
