The Federal Railway Authority (EBA) has published the plans for the first construction phase of the planned electrification of the Hof – Regensburg line. Infrastructure manager DB InfraGo submitted the plans for the section from Hof to Martinlamitz in May 2024. In addition to the installation of the overhead contact line, the construction of a third track between Hof and Oberkotzau and modifications to Hof station are also planned. The costs for this section and the following one to Marktredwitz are estimated at around €1 billion. The preliminary planning for the rest of the line to Regensburg should be completed by the end of 2024. German state railway DB will then hand over the documents to the federal government for a decision on the contract and funding for the detailed design and approval planning.
