The Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE) in South Wales has presented a movable 25 kV 50 Hz AC overhead contact line system from Furrer+Frey. This system, called the Cost-Reducing Dynamic Electrification System, could make the electrification of existing lines faster and cheaper. It allows the testing of different geometries under low bridges without the need for manual labour and machinery to make adjustments. The demonstration was supported by €599,000 (GB£500,000) in government funding through Innovate UK. The plan is to install 1 km of the system on the proposed GCRE test track.
