DTVS begins testing HSR switch

Czech manufacturer DT-Vyhybkarna a Strojirna has begun the next phase of development of a switch for high-speed rail (HSR) lines and is conducting non-operational tests on its own premises. The switch is designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h on straight track and 230 km/h on diverging track. The test, which will last around a year, is already using later track equipment such as electric switch heating, connection to a virtual interlocking system and a diagnostic system. Design parameters such as track gauge, contact and support behaviour of the tongue and frog, as well as the function of the interfaces to the safety technology and long-term stability in cyclic tests under various operating and extreme conditions are being tested. Once the tests have been completed, the switch is scheduled to be installed for subsequent operational trials at Podivin station.
