DfT invests in five railway projects

The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has announced investments in five major railway projects. These include the reopening of the railway line between Bristol and Portishead, which has been closed for over 60 years, and the construction of three new stations. Funding will also be provided for a Midlands Rail Hub, which will create new rail connections for over 50 locations. The government is investing €31.1 million (GB£27 million) to restore passenger services between Portishead and Bristol. Two new stations will be built in Wellington and Cullompton, and another in Haxby. The Midlands Rail Hub will be the largest railway project in the region, increasing train frequency and seating capacity around Birmingham. The East Coast Main Line (ECML) will receive new digital signalling technology to increase capacity and reliability and reduce delays by a third. These projects are part of a €106 billion infrastructure programme to improve England's transport infrastructure within a generation.
