As part of its EU Council Presidency, Denmark is taking the lead in negotiations on rail transport funding, climate protection and security. In the coming six months, Denmark will lead the budget negotiations after the European Commission has presented its draft multi-annual financial framework for the European Union (EU). The aim is to secure funding programmes such as the successor programmes to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and Horizon Europe programmes in order to modernise the railway network and signalling technology in the EU. The EU's target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 is to ensure sustainable investment in railways. In addition, Denmark is to press ahead with the digitalisation of the railway network and accelerate the introduction of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). The aim is also to revise the public procurement directives. A successor to the Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU) is also to be secured.
