DB InfraGO puts ETCS into operation on border lines to Switzerland

German infrastructure operator DB InfraGO has put the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 Limited Supervision (L1 LS) into operation on 60 km of lines between Germany and Switzerland. The Basel junction, the Erzingen (Baden) – Singen (Hohentwiel) line and the Constance track system towards Switzerland have been equipped with the system. The measure is part of the Rhine-Alpine Corridor project, which is equipping the German section of the TEN-T North Sea–Rhine–Mediterranean corridor. By 2027, additional facilities will be built in the Basel junction between Weil am Rhein and Haltingen, such as an additional track to separate passenger rail transport and rail freight transport. A new set of tracks for rail freight transport has already been completed in the southern part of the Basel Badischer marshalling yard. The Erzingen – Singen line will be electrified for half-hourly services by the end of 2027 and new overtaking facilities will be created.
