Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina push ahead with reactivation of Una railway line

Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina have agreed to reactivate the currently largely unused cross-border Una railway line. Bosnia-Herzegovina is preparing a technical study with a package of measures and cost estimates and expects Croatia to actively participate in the next phases of the project. The 178 km connection runs from Novi Grad and Bihac to Knin and largely follows the border. Around 124 km are located in Bosnia-Herzegovina and 54 km in Croatia. Before the destruction in the 1990s, the line reportedly transported 1.5 million passengers and 4 million t of goods per year and is also considered relevant for Croatia because of its connection to the ports of Split, Sibenik and Zadar. On Bosnian territory, the line has been partially repaired and is used locally. Passenger trains have been transporting people again on the Blatna – Bihac section since July 2018.
