According to Chinese state railway CR, the Chinese high-speed rail (HSR) network is to reach a length of over 50,000 km by the end of 2025. By 2035, it is to be expanded to more than 70,000 km and the maximum speed is to increase from the current 350 km/h to 400 km/h. The HSR network, which currently covers 48,000 km, accounts for 70% of HSR lines worldwide. Over 10,000 high-speed trains (HST) in service carry 16 million passengers per day. In December 2024, the manufacturer CRRC presented the prototype of the CR450AF HST, which reached speeds of up to 420 km/h in initial tests. CRRC is cooperating with the China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS) and CR on the development of the necessary technologies.
