German state railway DB's infrastructure operator DB InfraGO and DEGES have signed contracts with several construction companies for the construction of the Fehmarnsund Tunnel. The partners, including Ramböll, Strabag and Wayss & Freytag, will take on specific tasks such as planning, earthworks and civil engineering, construction of the immersed tunnel, as well as road and special civil engineering. The new tunnel for rail and road was awarded in 2020 and is intended to replace the old Fehmarnsund Bridge. It is being financed by EU, federal and state funds.
