The Portuguese government has cancelled the contract for the construction of the 120 km Oia – Soure section of the planned 290 km Porto – Lisbon high-speed rail (HSR) line. The contract was awarded in January 2025 to the LusoLav III consortium, which is led by Mota-Engil and includes other companies. The decision by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing was made due to concerns about the proposed relocation of the Coimbra-B station to Taveiro, which does not meet the contract specifications. The government is already preparing a new tender, which could start in late April or early May 2025. While the government is intending to keep the original base price, the local government of Coimbra is asking for a price revision. The LusoLav consortium, which also won the concession for the first 71 km section from Porto to Oia, is proposing to move the planned underground station in Vila Nova de Gaia to a new location, which could lead to the first concession being cancelled.
