The High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) has awarded eight consultancy contracts to carry out the feasibility study for the planned high-speed rail (HSR) line between Sydney and Newcastle. KPMG is responsible for project management, while Ernest & Young is responsible for aspects such as financing and implementation strategies. WSP and Arcadis are responsible for technical advice, land use planning, and environmental impact, while Arup is examining the operation of the HSR line. The results of the study are to be presented to the Australian Federal Government by the end of 2024, which has allocated around €47.1 million (AU$78.8 million) to carry out the study. The planned HSR line Sydney – Newcastle will have a maximum speed of over 250 km/h and will be built on a dedicated route between the two cities.
