On 19th August 2025, construction began on the new metro line 9 in Santiago de Chile. The 27 km line with 19 stations will be built in three sections and will connect Puente Cal y Canto in the city centre with Plaza de Puente Alto on line 4. The first section to be built will be the 14 km middle section with ten stations between Bío Bío, where passengers can transfer to line 6, and Plaza de La Pintana. The start of operation of this section is scheduled for 2030. The second section is 4 km in length and leads to the city centre to Puente Cal y Canto station. The tendering process is underway, and construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025. The opening is planned for 2032. The third section is 9 km in length, extends the line south to the Plaza de Puente Alto terminus and is scheduled for completion in 2033. The journey time for the entire line is expected to be 35 minutes, which is 28% faster than the bus connection.
