Cobelec consortium wins EUR 1.77 billion contract for electrification of Rail Baltica

The contract for the design and construction of the electrification system for the high-speed rail (HSR) line Rail Baltica, worth EUR 1.77 billion, has been awarded to the Spanish consortium Cobelec Rail Baltica, consisting of Cobra and Elecnor. The contract covers the complete implementation of the Rail Baltica Energy (ENE) subsystem for the 870 km line and 2,403 km of track in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The first phase, with a budget of EUR 949 million, is scheduled for completion by 2030. Financing will be provided in part by CEF funds from the European Union. The project envisages the large-scale use of SFC technology and 2x25 kV/50 Hz systems.
