French state railway SNCF and the French National Centre for Space Studies CNES have signed a framework agreement for the use of space data and technologies for the monitoring of railway infrastructure and services. The agreement focuses in particular on the use of satellite data and hybrid solutions that enable more precise and continuous real-time localisation of trains, even in tunnels. In addition, the data will be used to monitor the railway infrastructure and to prevent climate-related risks, such as embankment slides. The new agreement complements the collaboration between SNCF and CNES that has been in place since 2016.
