Austrian construction company Porr has been awarded the contract by Romanian state railway CFR to renovate and modernise the Craiova – Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș railway line in Romania. The design-and-build contract, worth around €428 million (RON 2.14 billion), includes the renewal of 32.6 km of line, the expansion to two tracks and two new double-track variants. In addition, there will be 18 bridges, 54 culverts, a new tunnel and the refurbishment of the Rachitoberg tunnel. Six stations will be modernised. The line will be electrified and equipped with the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) at Level 2. The project will take 60 months to complete.
