On 14th April 2025, the Agency for Public Property in Moldova APP announced the drafting of a government decision to reorganise Moldovan state railway CFM. This measure follows the new railway code adopted in February 2022, which provides for a reform of the railway sector. The aim is to split up CFM in the form of a separation of infrastructure management as well as passenger and freight transport services. The draft law provides for the split-up of the existing company responsible for managing the railway infrastructure and the creation of a new commercial company with full state capital that will operate passenger and freight transport, including the maintenance of its own fleet of locomotives and railway cars.
