The Moldovan government has decided to reorganise Moldovan state railway CFM and, to this end, has established the state-owned joint-stock company CFM – Pasageri și Marfă as the operator of passenger rail and rail freight transport. The railway infrastructure, including tracks, stations, land, and fixed installations, remains a public asset owned by CFM. The new operator takes over operational passenger rail transport and rail freight transport services as well as the associated rolling stock, other assets, and liabilities. The sole shareholder is the state agency for public property, which coordinates the process. The government justifies the separation with more transparent cost and revenue accounting and a clearer assessment of economic performance.
