On 19th September 2025, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill that will fund the project to build the California high-speed rail (HSR) line between Los Angeles and San Francisco with EUR 850 million (USD 1 billion) per year until 2045. The bill is based on an agreement reached by the state legislature and is supported by trade unions, environmental organisations and business associations. The funds come from the Cap and Invest programme and, in accordance to the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA), close the previous funding gap for the first construction phase in the Central Valley. The CHSRA will carry out further planning to connect the previously isolated construction phase to Los Angeles and the Bay Area based on the available funds.
