Norwegian infrastructure operator Bane NOR has introduced a technical solution that automatically warns train drivers when people or vehicles are stuck at level crossings. The technology, which is based on artificial intelligence (AI), has been installed at 39 of the country's most accident-prone level crossings after 15 months of testing, including a two-month pilot project on the Kongsvinger line from November to December 2023. The introduction at a further 25 secured level crossings is planned by winter 2025.
