The Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Sustainable Mobility (Mitma) has awarded the companies Ayesa and Teirlog a contract worth €513,900 to carry out feasibility studies to analyse a rail freight transport corridor for the Pau – Canfranc rail link with the Mediterranean corridor. The studies will analyse different options to alleviate current and future problems, including a possible direct connection without going through Zaragoza, which would allow the connection with the Pau – Canfranc line. Currently, the rail freight transport connection between the Zaragoza junction and the coastal axis of the Mediterranean Corridor in the Barcelona area is via two single-track lines of the Iberian network. The study is part of the Pau – Canfranc – Zaragoza cross-border line project financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which includes the restoration of cross-border transport between France and Spain. The project was selected as part of the CEF 2022 calls for tenders with a maximum EU contribution of €9.1 million.
