The Hong Kong government has appointed a joint venture (JV) between Arup and Asia Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) to provide consultancy services for the design and construction of a mass transit railway (MTR) system in East Kowloon. The planned MTR system will be around 7 km long and will run from Choi Hung East to Yau Tong East via eight stations. The Hong Kong government plans to invite expressions of interest from domestic and overseas bidders in the second half of 2024 (H2/2024). The tender for the construction of the project is scheduled to be launched in 2026 and the contract awarded in 2027, with a planned completion date of 2033. The JV, which consists of financial consultant Knight Frank Petty, planning consultant KTA Planning and engineering consultant China Design Group in addition to Arup and AIS, will carry out tasks such as site investigation, transport planning, environmental consultations, and technical and financial assessments.
