ARA publishes forecast for railway procurement until 2035

The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) has published a study on procurement forecasts in the railway sector for the next ten years up to 2035. The paper provides an overview of ongoing and planned major projects, the modernisation and maintenance of rolling stock, and a breakdown of construction and maintenance activities in the individual Australian states. According to the study, construction activity in the railway sector will peak at around EUR 9.7 billion (AUD 17.3 billion) in the 2025/26 fiscal year, but will decline to EUR 6.3 billion by 2031/32. Maintenance, according to the ARA, will remain a long-term growth driver, supported by network expansion, ageing infrastructure, and increased workloads due to climate change.
