US long-distance passenger rail transport operator Amtrak has discussed plans to modernise its railway infrastructure and renew its fleet with industry partners. At an industry meeting, modernisation and new-build projects were discussed that Amtrak is implementing with partners such as Siemens, Alstom, Aecom and Wabtec. As part of an investment programme that is to be increased by 50% in 2025, Amtrak is planning to build new bridges and tunnels and to renew its stations and fleet. The programme aims to meet the increased demand for intercity services in passenger rail transport and to improve connections in more than 500 cities in the US. Amtrak invested €4.3 billion (US$4.5 billion) in infrastructure and fleet projects in 2024 and plans to replace the majority of its nearly 40-year-old fleet.
