The US operator of long-distance passenger rail transport (LDPT), Amtrak, has invested €238 million (US$260 million) in improving the track system on the Northeast Corridor (NEC). These investments, which are 109% higher than those of 2023, are part of a strategy to double the annual number of passengers to 66 million by 2040. The work includes replacing over 75,500 rail fasteners, 51.5 km of rail, stabilising 273.6 km of track, and renewing over 35 points. The funding comes from Amtrak funds, federal grants and state and local contributions.
