Alstom and DT Infrastructure have been awarded a €1 billion (AU$1.6 billion) contract by the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia to provide the high-capacity signalling system (HCS) for the Metronet suburban network in Perth. The contract includes the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of a new automatic train control system that will replace the existing signalling and train control system and increase the capacity of the suburban rail network by 40%. Alstom will provide the Urbalis system for communication-based train control (CBTC).
